honestly, i dont see a bright and healthy future in china unless the communist party step down!!! after the handover in 1997, the chinese has worked so hard to build up a better relationship with hong kong........ but incident like this can ruin a decade of work. what a stupid, brainless government!!! | | |
| bangkok in april, phuket in may, bali in june, singapore in july, and i just returned from a tour in egypt 2 days ago and visited cities like aswan, luxor, hurghada, cairo and alexandria. didn't realise how frequent i travelled until i took out all my used-boarding passes from the passport case. surely, this would be a very special summer for me! egypt and its history are fascinating. i flew there via doha with qatar airways and spent 11 days there. cannot describe in words how astonishing and eye-popping when i saw their temples, monuments and exquisite embossments......especially when visited the pyramids and the great temple in abu simbel. also included in the tour package was the chance to experience 3 nights of river cruise on the nile with nubian meals and local egyptian dance. the 2 days spent in hurghada were relaxing but unforgettable. scuda-dived in the crystal-clear red sea and took a stroll after dinner at local markets. the trip was ended in alexandria, where i could see the 15th-century qaitbay citadel that was built from the lighthouse of alexandria - one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, together with the great pyramid of giza. back to hong kong via doha again and i have to say, my experience with qatar airways was impressive! cabin environment, meals and inflight entertainment were excellent, but one thing i have to disagree was its hospitality. i dont think it was adequate enough to earn the airline a 5-star rating. anyway, back to hong kong with tonnes of laundry....hmmm! but got a good news from my brother - a new member of our family was born a day before my arrival. he is the 8th member in the family and the first male descendant of the 29th generation of the house. p.s. next year i must go to jordan - i have already planned this trip for 2 years.....but.... want to see the world heritage site of petra and to swim in the dead sea. also planning to visit fiji when air pacific commences its direct service to hong kong later this year. oh, and also turkey and tokyo! .......arghh....work hard, save money!!!! | | |
| as the weather gets hotter and wetter each day, it is evident that summer has arrived. walking in town, it is not difficult to discover that many overseas students have already flown back for their summer holidays. streets, shopping malls, karaokes, beaches, clubs and bars are overwhelmed by the returned students. i once had the luxury to study abroad, returning every summer for a rather long vacation. looking at them, i realised i had passed through that stage quite sometimes ago. i feel old! i cannot express how lucky i was to have been able to study overseas, but it was certain that i received immense benefits by the opportunity. actually, what i really want to say is: i feel incomprehensible whenever i hear people mixing up two or more languages in a sentence in order to show that they can speak better english or to show their 'inabilities' to explain and deliver something in cantonese (some local celebrities like doing this, im afraid). last week, i saw a girl who claimed herself to be an 'overseas-born' and spoke only english to her friends, when in fact i discovered later she talked to her mum in fluent cantonese on the phone. why would people pretend? im sure their mothers wouldn't send them overseas if they knew their kids would lose the mother tongue whilst english is still poor. what's the point to learn a new language if you lose the other? knowledge is precious and will be useful for the rest of your life. old books in a library will never be thrown away just because new books are being received! (if you know what i mean). anyway, i want to raise this up because i saw this group of teen behaving badly on train this morning, shouting loudly in coarse language and in improper english......not because i feel different from others!! in fact, my english is rather poor! i still cannot figure out the difference between 'relation' and 'relationship'. i tried to look up on dictionaries in several attempts, but there were no answer. only one website explains that the two words are interchangeable and that 'relation' is mostly used to describe nations, departments...etc whilst 'relationship' is often used to describe people. can anyone help? | | |
| when i posted my previous blog here, i was 29! now, i have turned 30. if i can live up to the age of 70, that means i have already used up 43% of my life. there is no doubt that i had a happy, stress-free and adventurous 30 years, especially the 5 years i spent in boarding school. but many have claimed that i should be more enterprising and career-minded. i totally understand why they said that but i dont think it is too late to build up my career now. im not trying to twist the morality here, but at least im not one of those who just sit at home or always ask for money from parents and then fool around. i believe these coming 2 years will be a turning point of my life, knowing how to build up my career path and what i really want in life. if i retire at the age of 60.....i still have 30 years to work from now. remember, life is too short!!! having a happy and healthy life is priceless! having a happy family is priceless! so spend more time with your loved ones, spend more time to explore the earth. dont blind yourself in the material world by working pointlessly in an attempt to earn your fortune and the so-called 'achievement'. travel when you have time, dont waste your time and money on shopping and entertainment. right, im talking some philosophic craps again. someone stop me please! P.S. i have posted some photos of my birthday trip in bali on facebook! it was a fantastic trip....great place, great people with beautiful scenery and rich culture. | | |
| exams were all over in early may, meaning that i have already started my 4-month-long summer holiday until early september since i dont have to travel to college everyday during summer months i told my boss to alter my shift for my part-time job to ''monday-wednesday'' only, so that i can save some money on transport. i had 2 trips in may, both destinations were in thailand. first, i went on an unexpected ''last-minute'' trip to bangkok for a weekend with robert. then the following weekend i travelled to phuket for 5 days with jim, robert and 3 other friends. both trips were fun and relaxing but i got skin irritation after the latter due to the excessive use of tanning oil and massage oil, which eventually blocked all the pores over my body. consulted a doctor after returning to hong kong and it took me a week to clear the rashes tomorrow, i'll be travelling again for 5 days....this time to bali, indonesia. this trip is a birthday treat and i'll be flying there with cathay's business class and staying at private pool villas in st.regis resort and pita maha resort. cannot wait apart from holidays, there have been some good news to me recently. firstly, i got accepted to the BSc (Hons) Aviation Management course offered jointly by city university in hong kong and coventry university in england. so, from this september onwards i'll switch to the new course and spend 1.5 years to complete the degree secondly, after 5 years of long fight.....the refuse collection point (rubbish station) outside our house will be closed and relocated on 2 july....... finally!!!! just realised i haven't written the 2008 review as promised in previous blog(s).....haha. lets see if i have time this evening to start writing | | |
